Revolutions Around the World Essay -- History, Intellectual Innovation

During the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century, the colonies of the New World, and countries of the Old World, were undergoing revolutions and reforms. In North America, the United States created an economic and political powerhouse; the modern world’s first major nation to become a democracy. The Haitian Rebellion dramatically inspired other slaves and people to rise above government and be given the rights to freedom. The French Revolution practically destroyed its earlier absolute monarchy and caused the people to fight for social and political systems that treated them fairly and gave them more voice in government. The ideas and responses to the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions illustrate political uprisings in each government, change in social autonomy and a newfound sense of pride, along with intellectual shift and innovations. An additional document that would help analyze these revolutions would be a written document about a person’ s account and emotional insight to what it was like living during a revolution. A major thought for these revolutions was that the people of these regions wanted to formulate a new government in which it would grant more people freedom and would be actually able to listen to the people. In British periodicals, illustrations display British Officials being tarred and feathered; a humiliating event for anyone (Doc 2). This represents the Americans’ public opinion towards political leaders of Britain and their demand for liberty and justice. The Declaration of Independence states that the United States wants a just government that listens to the voice of the people, and is made up of the people (Doc 3). The Declaration of Independence displays how the ideas of the p... ...people into joining the revolt and other countries thinking about rebellions and revolutions (Doc 6). The political uprisings, national pride and change in social statues, along with intellectual innovations were all ideas and responses to the revolutions. The ideas and the responses to these ideas were important factors in the outcome of these revolutions. Political up rise and search for liberty caused governments to be overthrown and fought against. A sense of equality, shift in social autonomy, and nationalism led to revolutions in France, America, and Haiti. The influences of intellectual ideas led to more people being involved in the revolutions of these regions. These revolutions change the world, causing the United States to become the world’s largest power, Haitian people to gain liberty, and absolute monarchy in France to be completely overthrown.

Who Invented Earth Day

Question: Who Invented Earth Day? Earth Day is celebrated every year in more than 180 nations worldwide, but who first had the idea for Earth Day and got the celebration started? Who invented Earth Day? Answer: U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, is usually credited with conceiving the idea for the first Earth Day celebration in the United States, but he wasnt the only person to come up with a similar idea at about the same time. Nelson was deeply concerned about the environmental problems facing the nation and frustrated that the environment seemed to have no place in U.S. politics. Inspired by the success of teach-ins being held on college campuses by Vietnam War protesters, Nelson envisioned Earth Day as an environmental teach-in, which would show other politicians that there was widespread public support for the environment. Nelson chose Denis Hayes, a student attending the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, to organize the first Earth Day. Working with a staff of volunteers, Hayes put together an agenda of environmental events that drew 20 million Americans to join together in celebration of the Earth on April 22, 1970—an event that American Heritage magazine later called, one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy. Another Earth Day ProposalAt about the same time that Nelson was having his brainstorm about an environmental teach-in to be called Earth Day, a man named John McConnell was coming up with a similar notion, but on a global scale. While attending the UNESCO Conference on the Environment in 1969, McConnell proposed the idea of a global holiday called Earth Day, an annual observance to remind people worldwide of their shared responsibility as environmental stewards and their common need to preserve Earths natural resources. McConnell, an entrepreneur, newspaper publisher, and peace and environmental activist, chose the first day of spring, or vernal equinox, (usually March 20 or 21) as the perfect day for Earth Day, because it is a day that symbolized renewal. McConnells proposal was eventually accepted by the United Nations, and on February 26, 1971, U.N. Secretary General U Thant signed a proclamation declaring an international Earth Day and saying the U.N. would celebrate the new holiday annually on the vernal equinox. What Happened to the Earth Day Founders?McConnell, Nelson and Hayes all continued to be strong environmental advocates long after Earth Day was founded. In 1976, McConnell and anthropologist Margaret Mead founded the Earth Society Foundation, which drew dozens of Nobel laureates as sponsors. And he later published his 77 Theses on the Care of Earth and the Earth Magna Charta. In 1995, President Bill Clinton presented Nelson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in founding Earth day and for raising public awareness of environmental issues and promoting environmental action. Hayes has received the Jefferson Medal for Outstanding Public Service, several awards of appreciation and achievement from the Sierra Club, the National Wildlife Federation, The Natural Resources Council of America, and many other groups. And in 1999, Time magazine named Hayes Hero of the Planet.

This was evident when the manager was pushing the workers and encouraging them to have passion in what they do for this was their key to success. He also encouraged them to put the happiness of their customers, as each staff’s core priority for this was the only way to enable the restaurant prospers not only in the region but also in other areas. 2.Reinforcement of Service Standards The manager continuously reinforced service standards to keep the performance of his workers at peak levels. The Iliad And The Odyssey - 1928 Words

Homer is the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey. There is very little known about Homer, and even some doubt that the same author wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey. The Iliad and the Odyssey are epic poems and a vast array of characters in the Iliad were also in the Odyssey. In Book 3 of the Odyssey Homer writes about a great king’s experiences in Egypt.Herodotus wrote The Histories, an inquiry into the reasons behind the Persian Wars. The Histories is written in prose, not poem form. Much more is known about Herodotus than Homer. The hometown of Herodotus is known (he tells us within the first three words of The Histories) as well as the fact that he wrote The Histories. Literary tradition is the specific tradition that will be under consideration for the remainder of this work. Literary traditi on, which moves from physical acts to written expression, must still be within the â€Å"boundaries† of a tradition; it must occur with regularity and be passed down through generations. Tradition is harder to identify when working with written works for many reasons. One is the problem of plagiarism, an author can not simply take the same story or the same characters of a story and pass them off as their own. They can not do exactly what the previous authors did or take the same idea and personalize it. In the case of literary tradition, traits like the style, intent, and content must be the determining factors which categorize which works are part of the same tradition. Furthermore, in order for works to be in the same tradition, there has to be a traceable connection of the traits from one of the works to the other work, or, alternatively, both works can be traced back to the same work that is different than the other two. Since the Odyssey and The Histories are quite ancient, there are not many books that are old enough to be used as a source for both authors. Therefore, I will not be looking for a common source that the two works draw from. Malvolios Identity In the play Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare Essay Example For Students

Malvolios Identity In the play Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare Essay In the play Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare creates a plot in which the relations are sabotaged by the characters and their disguises. Question of identity prevail in the most of the main characters in the play, like viola/Cesario, who work to achieve their goals. This gives place to a romantic tangled up comedy, where love blossoms and a structured ending occurs. The misunderstanding trickery leads to love between people who naturally are not supposed to be together i. e. Viola/Olivia unrequited love. The malice of some characters leads to the downfall of others. This produces a great deal of chaos with the emotions and social standings of characters like Maria, Olivia and Viola. For example, Malvolio an efficient, hardworking steward, who fantasizes with the idea of becoming a nobleman by marrying his mistress, Olivia. The joke played on him leads Malvolio to attempt evasion of the customary rules of the social hierarchy by pretending to be someone he is not. Malvolio is portrayed from the beginning of the play as an arrogant, disillusioned man with false self-importance. The audience gets a glimpse of his being Puritan a killjoy when he enters the room and begins to chastise the knights, even though they are higher than he is in the social scale and for that they are superior to him. He accuses them of being mad, of acting like tinkers who have no wit, manners, nor honesty. (II, iii, 87) His observations point out that he believes they are behaving like commoners and that he behaves better than they do, or so he believes. This action upsets the servant Maria who is apparently a socially equal, but he denies the fact and also belittles her. Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Feste and Maria do not have a high opinion of Malvolio. In fact, they dislike and ridicule him terribly by reminding him that he is just a steward. They all see him as a Puritan, egoist, and hypocrite. (All this adjectives are spread throughout the play, showing that his offensive personality is in fact true). Finally the whole pack (V, I, 377) plays a practical joke on him to put him in his place where he belongs: a servant. Malvolio demonstrates his loyalty towards Olivia. The idea of marrying her, being a count and being very wealthy was just a dream that he never reacted to because it seemed very far from his grasp. When he finds the letter, he is completely overwhelmed and convinces himself that this is a very important piece of evidence of his Olivias love. He gets carried away with his dreams, and starts to take action. This gives place to very humorous dilemmas. For example when Olivia tells him to Go to bed (III, iv, 30) he interprets this as if she wanted to sleep with him. This also triggers his need and desire for social climbing, because he misinterprets when Olivia: term of fellow (III, iv, 60) as if she meant it as he socially equal fellow. Malvolios imagination had always been a very active one, but he hadnt harmed anyone with his dreams. Initially the practical joke played on him seems to be very amusing to the other characters. It is light hearted enough to cause laughter about Malvolios foolishness, without creating feeling of remorse for the embarrassing position in which Malvolio stands. Even more, the characters that planned this hoax in the play are happy because this doesnt seem to affect him in a serious manner. Malvolio comprehends that he is being mocked by other characters and offends them Go, hang yourselves all! You are idle shallow things: I am not of your element; you shall know more hereafter. (III, IV, 124) The situation changes drastically when he is accused of being possessed. He is locked in a dark room and tiring to convince him of being mad. .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .postImageUrl , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:hover , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:visited , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:active { border:0!important; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:active , .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62 .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9854eda3eefe17abf245f237e8848e62:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Colours in Othello EssayHis dignity is removed away in this sinister way of treating him while captive, and Malvolio becomes desperate while still denying being mad. After some time in prison, his personality changes he speaks to Feste as an equal. Good-Fool Ill requite in the highest degree I prithee. (IV, ii, 123. ) He leaves in the final scene wanting revenge from the kinsmen and servants that played the joke on him. Ill be revengd on the whole pack of you! (V, I, 377) In this play the problem of social ambition and misplaced love are resolved. Nevertheless Malvolios aspirations of becoming noble are more unreasonable than Sir Tobys of marring Maria who is socially unworthy. Malvolio finally faces the truth, and realizes that he is socially undeserving of his noble mistress, and departure. The happy socially justifiable couples come together and achieve happiness. The social hierarchy that was trued upside down during the play it is set back onto its feet.

If the public educational school system delivered a powerful education then everybody would have an equivalent opportunity to prosper. Nevertheless the public educational school technique does not provide everybody an objective possibility to do so. All students are not bequeathed an equivalent possibility for the reason that the school system is prepared in such a method that a majority of the children will turn into a prearranged social class. Children who originate from low-income families are moved forward by the public school system into low wage occupations; with this restricted education there are choices likewise restricted. These schoolchildren acquire resourceful problem resolving and decisiveness making abilities that are appreciated in a prosperous profession. Start off â€Å"with children at birth, supporting them through high school and postsecondary education, and helping them to succeed as lifelong learners who can adapt to the constant changes in the demands of the global economy (2012). Students are repeatedly invited to convey and utilize concepts and notions. By means of having a public education that is sturdy and delivers a dense education to all people, one that does not differentiate, against ethnic group, sexual category or social finances, then someday everybody will have the same opportunity to thrive from the inferior classes to the advanced social classes. Education is influential and it permits people to be knowledgeable and make knowledgeable decisions that affect the world that exist in.
